Haiku Series

Regular visitors to this website may know that I enjoy writing. Since there aren’t actually regular visitors to Ptv then I guess that means that no one is aware of my joys but that is beside the point.

My point is that I like writing. I like to experiment with all forms of writing and expression. On one of my trips to Japan I discovered Basho, Matsuo and the Haiku poem. To me reading his poetry was like finding freedom again, it was expression in its simplest, most concise, distilled form.

I later revisited Japan several times, each time feeling that Japan was becoming a larger part of me. Now, years later Japan is engraved in my every thought and movement. It is burned in my soul and never leaves me. It is a dense, strong feeling of there within me.

To remember those moments and share them with you, my non-readers, I’ll occasionally publish some of the Haiku I wrote while on my trips.

As with any form of creative expression, I’ve changed the Haiku a bit, I decided to diverge from the traditional citing of nature in my poems because nature isn’t always in my feelings. But I have done my best to sticking to the 17-syllable verse form consisting of three metrical units of 5, 7, and 5 syllables.

So here we go 5, 7, 5 - Haiku N° 1 - My view from here.

Haiku N° 2 - With you

Haiku N° 3 - Fear Order

Haiky N° 4 - Dependence
