A week in Oville Florida

OweeklyDuring one of my recent trips to South Carolina I discovered this writer who suggested that once a person leaves his home, he could never return.  I didn’t think much of it during my whirl wind tour of the state but now sitting at home it does make me think.

Can you leave home and return?  Where is our home and does it ever change?  Is home where your parents live or is where you were born?  Is it where your family lives or where your friends are to be found?  If you leave all of those places where then is home?

Having left my parent’s home at a relatively young age I know what it is to return home and not really feel there.  Coming home is always a mix of anxiety, anticipation and sheer dread.  Are those the same emotions?

I was born in Miami, moved transiently in my youth with my family to eventually settle in Winter Park, Florida long enough for me to graduate from high school.

Every year or so I try to come home and document how this place has changed.  What has gotten better, what has gotten worse and what has just gotten. I was immediately happy when I saw the cover art of Orlando Weekly for the last week of December 06.  Not that I feel I took too many cheap shots this year but the picture suitably fits my feelings for the year.

So with that confusing introduction I launch a Week in Oville.
