My new hood

witsend

When I decided to move to this neighbourhood the Realtor asked me a few profile type questions to get a feel for me and understand what I was looking for. I chose this apartment from internet pictures and all the business was conducted via email. So when I finally arrived to London and moved into my place I got to see the apartment I had rented and the area my Realtor chose for me. One of the first things I noticed as I walked up my new street was that my neighbour lived at ‘Wits ends’. I smiled and felt at home.

window London as opposed to Paris is a great mix of old and new, run down vs newly refurbished. This great door isn’t far from my place.

whitecube The White Cube gallery in Hoxton Square is a two minute walk from my place. There is a sign on the door that says ‘the White Cube is closed’. The door has been open every time I’ve walked by with people coming and going.

teapot The teapot is around the corner. When I moved to France I had to learn how to drink coffee now it looks like I’ll learn to drink tea. At the automatic coffee machines at university you can choose coffee, tea with milk and sugar or just tea and milk. I’m slowly learning to drink white tea. No more Ice Tea for this southern boy.

church If ever in doubt I have St Johns church up the street. I’ve always believed that with a little faith, prayer and honesty anyone can die and go to paradise. Its nice to have the heavenly airport next door.

paradise
If prayer and honesty don’t work I do have another outlet I could try…

matchesLondon is famous for its street artists. The most famous is Banksy. This is not Bansky but the style is similar.

I love the open museum.

diner If I ever get homesick I do have a diner nearby that serves up fresh burgers and fries in a friendly environment. I noticed though that the Diner is packed on Sundays.

park It was also very comforting to discover some green spaces and parks in the neighbourhood. I’m not close to water but at least there is some grass in the area. I guess I’ll be fighting Londoners in the spring for a spot in this park.
mystreet And finally, I thought you might be interested to see the street I live on. I live on the second floor of one the buildings in the picture.
